Top-Must Visit Places in Chitrakoot

Chitrakoot is a small, historic pilgrimage town that is located in the centre of India, straddling the Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh borders, and is known for its spiritual significance and natural beauty. Chitrakoot Dham is a haven for those seeking both devotion and tranquillity. Visiting Chitrakoot and exploring its natural beauty and best tourist attractions is now very flexible with the Soil2Soul Expeditions .

It’s a scholar-led Ayodhya tour including Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Prayagraj, and Varanasi.

Here’s a guide to the main top Chitrakoot tourist attractions and places to visit in Chitrakoot Dham.

Hanuman Dhara

Nestled atop a steep hill, Hanuman Dhara, Chitrakoot is a sacred spring dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Devotees believe that Hanuman Dhara is the name of the spring that sprouted from a rock when Lord Ram shot an arrow into it to calm down an angered Hanuman, who had come to this spot to put out the fire in his tail after returning from destroying Lanka. The cool waters of the spring are said to have soothed his burning tail. This spot offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, making the climb worthwhile in Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh.

Soil2Soul Expedition’s tour package also includes a ropeway ride at Hanuman Dhara. You can enjoy the beautiful nature and scenery with your loved ones in our Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Prayagraj, and Varanasi tour package.

Shri Kamta Nath Mandir

Shri Kamta Nath Mandir is a prominent temple dedicated to Lord Rama. The temple complex is surrounded by lush greenery and provides a tranquil atmosphere for worshippers. Pilgrims often undertake the Parikrama (circumambulation) of the Kamadgiri Mountain, a ritual believed to absolve sins and grant wishes. The parikrama takes devotees three to four hours to finish.

In addition to its religious significance, this location is well-known for the peace and quiet it offers. Visitors can visit the Shri Kamta Nath Mandir Chitrakoot from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.; however, the outer sanctum sanctorum—the major part of the temple—stays closed for a time in the afternoon in order to carry out certain ceremonies.

Sati Anusaya Temple

This beautiful temple is just 18 km away from Ramghat and 3 km near Satna in the lap of nature. For Hindus, it is a well-known holy destination in Chitrakoot and is considered to be among the most sacred locations in the area. The reason this location is significant is because Maharishi Atreya and his wife Anasuya dwelt here as an ashram. In addition to idols of Sati Anusuya's mother Atreya and son Dattatreya, the ashram is dedicated to her life and features images of her. Because of her chaste, pure, and devoted nature, Anusuya is considered one of the mahasatis in Hinduism's sacred texts.

The best time to visit Sati Anusaya temple is in the summer or in the spring season. People of Chitrakoot passionately celebrate the festival of Navratri.

Sita Rasoi

A unique attraction in Chitrakoot, Sita Rasoi is a cave where Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, is believed to have cooked during their exile. Offering a window into mythological times, the cave has impressions and antique cookware.

This location is at the summit of Hanuman Dhara Hill, and although getting there requires climbing over 750 stairs, every step is well worth the calories lost.

Ram Ghat & Mandakini River

Ram Ghat, a bustling and colourful location on the banks of the Mandakini River, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Chitrakoot. Pilgrims flock here for evening aarti, a spiritual ritual of worship involving lighted lamps. The goat comes alive with hymns and chants, creating a mesmerising atmosphere.

Chitrakoot's spiritual appeal is enhanced by the calm flow of the Mandakini River. Pilgrims take holy dips in the river, believing it to purify the soul. The country's fertility was sustained during a 10-year drought by the waters of the river Mandakini, which was constructed by the queen Ahilyabai Holkar, who, according to the Puranas, underwent intense penance for a millennium. Her efforts to introduce Mandakini to the area are reminiscent of King Bhagiratha's fabled tale. Ram's ancestor Bhagirath is credited with bringing the Ganga holy river to Earth via intense penance. In Hindu mythology, Anusuya is one of the seven "pativrata" ladies, along with Sita, Savitri, Ahilya, Tara, Draupadi, and Mandodari. They are frequently cited as models for all women to imitate.

Bharat Milap

Bharat Milap is a significant site that commemorates the emotional reunion of Lord Rama with his brother Bharat, where he persuaded Lord Ram to return to Ayodhya, giving away the vanvasa of fourteen years. A temple stands at the exact spot where this event is believed to have occurred. In this temple are the lotus footprints of Lord Ramachandra and his brother Bharata, which remain the perfect example of divine brotherly love. For devotees, the location is extremely significant both historically and emotionally.

Chitrakoot Waterfalls

Boasting a width of about 985 feet, Chitrakoot Falls is the widest waterfall in India, and much like Niagara Falls in North America, it is popularly known as the Niagara Falls of India. Though not as famous as other attractions, the waterfalls in Chitrakoot offer a refreshing break from the pilgrimage sites. The pristine waterfalls, surrounded by lush forests, are ideal for a day of picnicking and relaxation.
