Features Of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya


The much awaited “Prana Pratishtha Ceremony” of Shree Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya took place on 22 January, 2024 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ram Mandir Ayodhya area is situated across 4 hectares and remaining 23 hectares developed into a complex with a prayer hall, lecture hall, education facility, a museum, cafeteria among other facilities. Nearby 70,000 people can accommodate in the temple complex at a time.

The temple was designed by renowned architect Chandrakant B. Sompura in collaboration with his son Ashish.




The key features of Ram Mandir, provided by Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust are as below:




1) Construction of Ram Mandir Ayodhya is in a traditional Nagar style. It measures 380 feet from east to west, 250 feet wide, and 161 feet tall.

2) The Mandir is three stories tall, with each floor standing 20 feet tall, and it is supported by 392 pillars and 44 doorways. Hindu deities, gods and goddesses featured artistically into pillars and walls.

3) The childhood form of Bhagwan Shri Ram (the idol of Shri Ram Lalla) would be shown in the main sanctum sanctorum, while a Shri Ram Darbar will be located on the first floor.

4) The temple has five mandaps (halls) - Nritya Mandap, Rang Mandap, Sabha Mandap, Prathana Mandap and Kirtan Mandap.

5) The main entrance of the temple is situated on the eastern side. It goes through the Singh Dwar and ascends 32 steps.

6) Four Mandirs constructed at the four corners of the Ram Mandir Temple compound dedicated to Ganesh Bhagwan, Surya Dev, Devi Bhagwati, and Bhagwan Shiv. Additional to this, Maa Annapurna's Mandir is in the northern arm of the temple whereas Hanuman ji's Mandir is in the southern arm of the temple.


7) Foundation of the Ram temple is supported by large number of columns:
   
    Ground floor - 160 columns
    First floor - 132 Columns
    Second floor - 74 columns

    These columns showcase intricate design and detailing of the temple contributing to the temple’s overall stability and aesthetics.

8) For the convenience of disabled and elderly people, temple also has provisions of ramps and lifts.

9) The Mandir has a rectangular compound wall named “Parkota”. This wall is 732 metres in length and 14 feet in width.

10) A historic well (Sita koop) near the Mandir dates back to the ancient era.

11) No steel or iron is used while constructing Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

12) At Kuber Tila, in the southwestern portion of the compound, the ancient mandir of Bhagwan Shiv is located and restored along with the installation of Jatayu.

13) The foundation of the Mandir was built with a 14-meter-thick layer of roller-compacted concrete (RCC), giving it the appearance of artificial rock.

14)  A 21-foot-high plinth has been constructed using granite to protect against ground moisture.

15) The Mandir complex includes a sewage treatment plant, a water treatment plant, a water supply for fire safety, and an independent power plant.

16) A Pilgrims Facility Centre (PFC) with a capacity of 25,000 people is being built, which will provide medical services and lockers to pilgrims.

17) The complex will also have a separate block with a bathing area, restrooms, washbasins, open taps, and other amenities.

18) The Ram Mandir building is made of "Ram Shilas," which are bricks with the words "Shri Ram" engraved on each one.
